Hannah McMechan

Screenwriter, K-Pop Demon Hunters

Hannah is from a small town just beneath Yosemite National Park, where—despite being Northern California—everyone somehow has a country accent.

Most recently named to Variety’s prestigious Screenwriters to Watch for 2025 list, Hannah was just 24 years old when she co-wrote K-Pop Demon Hunters, which exploded into the zeitgeist last summer—becoming Netflix’s most-watched film of all time and topping global music charts with its soundtrack. Since its release, the film has won two Golden Globe Awards and two Critics’ Choice Awards, earned 10 Annie Award nominations (including Best Writing – Feature), and received five Grammy nominations. The film was also named TIME’s 2025 Breakthrough of the Year.

Up next, Hannah is set to write Tim Burton’s reimagining of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, alongside Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap, who are developing and producing. She is currently taking out her original series A Really Bad Person with Legendary producing, as well as an original feature, a queer western. Previously, she developed a Lord Farquaad feature for DreamWorks Animation and a Cheech & Chong biopic with Todd Lieberman’s Hidden Pictures. In television, Hannah is a writer and Co-Producer on Brothers, the upcoming Matthew McConaughey/Woody Harrelson series for Apple TV+ and Skydance, and a staff writer on the Ren & Stimpy reboot for Comedy Central and Paramount+.
