Vera Miao is a writer-director who believes film is one of the most profound ways humans collaborate to make meaning. Her early work in community organizing, the nonprofit sector, and acting, along with her love of horror/sci-fi, shape her unique brand of propulsive yet character-forward storytelling. The first feature she wrote and produced, Best Friends Forever, premiered at Slamdance. She created Two Sentence Horror Stories, described by The New York Times as “clever” and one of the most diverse shows on television (three seasons on CW), and was writer/supervising producer on Amazon Prime’s Expats. Rock Springs, premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, is her feature directorial debut.
